The Boone County Sheriff’s Department Facebook post says it began early Saturday morning at about 12:30 after the driver allegedly sped away from a registration violation near Clark lane and Ballenger. The Boone County sheriff’s department says a deputy activated lights and tried to catch up with the driver, but the suspect’s vehicle fled out of sight. Another deputy later observed the vehicle traveling westbound on Mexico Gravel road, near Hinkson creek road. Deputies say the suspect’s vehicle traveled at a high rate of speed on Hinkson Creek road and then crashed near the creek. Deputies saw the driver flee from the vehicle on foot.

Boone County sheriff’s deputies found a 32-year-old male occupant who was ejected from the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1 am. His name has not been released. Boone County Sheriff’s Captain Brian Leer tells 939 the Eagle that the driver has not been located yet. Anyone with information on the suspect is being urged to call Columbia Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS. Your identity will be protected.
