Teachers union-backed candidates win both seats on Columbia’s school board

The two Columbia school board candidates backed by the local teachers union have won their races on Tuesday.

Columbia school board president Suzette Waters has been re-elected, receiving 17,698 votes, according to final unofficial numbers from the Boone County clerk’s office. Erica Dickson also wins a seat on the board, receiving 16,885 votes. Businessman Ken Rice, who campaigned door-to-door across the district, finishes third with 10,423 votes.

Columbia Public Schools (CPS) is Missouri’s fourth-largest district, with more than 19,000 students.
