Tergin on Jefferson City Bicentennial Bridge, MSP construction

Two big construction projects are given the go-ahead in Jefferson City.

Mayor Carrie Tergin says work on the Bicentennial Bridge linking the Capitol grounds to Adrians Island over the river began this week.

“Our goal is that August 10th of [2021], which is our state’s bicentennial year, that we have substantial completion by then,” said Tergin.

Jefferson City’s council also approved using a one-and-a-half million dollar grant to fund building streets into the old MSP prison site. Tergin says the money will be earmarked for developing access to the site.

“This means that we’re going to be able to finish up some of the infrastructure that needs to be there, [including] the roads that need to happen,” said Tergin.

The prison closed in 2004 but has long been targeted for use as a tourism site. City sales tax dollars will match the funding.
