Three compete for spots on Columbia’s Board of Education

Three candidates are competing for two spots open in the Columbia Board of Education.

During Thursday night’s debate, they discussed guns in schools, school boundaries, attendance and budget.

ABC 17 reports candidate Della Streaty-Willhoit has been an educator for more than 25 years and looks to improve the achievement gap in schools.

Candidate Jay Atkins said he would focus on improving literacy and candidate Blake Willoughby said he would bring a new outlook to the board.
