It is that time of year when tens of thousands of college students start returning to Columbia.
Mayor Brian Treece asked college students during a press conference at city hall with school and health leaders on Tuesday to avoid house parties with no social distancing or mask-wearing, and to follow the coronavirus rules at bars.
“We all have to be partners. We must follow the data and science to guide us, all of us, to make the best decisions with the information we have and to implement strong policy and practice.”
Treece said measures like social distancing, mask-wearing, and hand-washing keep local businesses open and make sporting events and other gatherings possible. He said a COVID-19 outbreak could lead to another shutdown that would have a devastating affect on Columbia’s economy.
