Treece: Columbia preparing for novel coronavirus

Columbia mayor Brian Treece says the University of Missouri has been ramping up ways to teach classes remotely, even before it announced a temporary stop to in-person classes due to coronavirus concerns.

“We have thousands of visiting scholars that are on campus,” Treece said to Missourinet. “With spring break coming up, you’re going to have students going home, going abroad, and then returning to their home away from home.”

Mizzou’s in-person classes are on hold until at least after spring break, on Mar. 30.

Mayor Treece says Columbia’s hospitals are looking at more telehealth options.

“So that our hospitals are not inundated with these types of cases when we have other primary and secondary diagnoses in patients there.”
