Trucker charged with manslaughter for December death of Boone County Fire official skips court appearance

A capias warrant has been issued for a truck driver who’s charged in the deadly December I-70 crash that killed longtime Boone County Fire assistant chief Bryant Gladney.

64-year-old Kevin Brunson of Kansas City failed to appear in court for his hearing on Monday, and Judge Kevin Crane issued the warrant.

Brunson was released from the Boone County jail on his own recognizance in late March and was briefly hospitalized, according to online court records. 939 the Eagle was in Boone County Circuit Court for his March video arraignment, where Brunson appeared to have fallen asleep while being questioned by Judge Brouck Jacobs.

The deadly collision happened on December 22 at the 135-mile marker, just east of Columbia.
