Two men indicted in Jefferson City homicide

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Two men now face murder charges in the death of a Jefferson City man last month.

On Tuesday, a grand jury in Cole County indicted Semaj Harris, 20, and Bruce Thomas, 15, in the Nov. 19 shooting death of Nilez Nichols.

The fatal shooting happened during a botched drug deal at a home in the 1900 block of Stadium Boulevard. According to ABC 17 News, Thomas went to the home in order to buy marijuana and ask about a gun sale. He later confessed to police that he had been planning to steal the drugs. ABC 17 also reports Thomas got into a fight with the resident and then took off with both the drugs and gun.

The resident’s roommate, Nichols, chased after Thomas but ABC 17 News reports that an unnamed co-defendant from the home shot him.

Harris apparently also “barged” into the home, according to ABC 17, and pointed his gun at the two people fighting to get them to stop. Court documents indicated that Nichols chased Harris and Thomas from the home.

Both men face murder and robbery charges.
