State troopers say eight Missourians were killed during the Christmas holiday counting period, which began Thursday evening and ended late Sunday night.

Two of the deaths happened in mid-Missouri, including a fatality in Osage County, east of Jefferson City. Troopers say 32-year-old Zachary Sutton of De Soto crossed the center line on Highway 28 and struck a pickup truck head-on.

Sutton was pronounced dead at the scene, and the pickup driver suffered moderate injuries.

Meantime, a Camdenton resident was killed in an ATV crash. Missouri state troopers say 57-year-old Kenneth Mustain was killed when the ATV he was operating ran off the road and overturned.

Mustain was ejected and was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Columbia. Troopers say the crash happened on Greenview drive, in Camden County.

Troopers statewide investigated 310 traffic crashes during the Christmas counting period.
