Friday is an opportunity for Columbia-area residents to get rid of expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Youth Community Coalition and others are sponsoring the prescription drug take back events in Columbia. There are two locations today: the Truman VA hospital and Mizzou’s student center on Rollins. Hours are 10 am to 2 pm.

Needles will not be accepted.

You can also drop them off Saturday at the Ashland, Centralia and Hallsville police departments, as well as at Columbia’s Hickman and Rock Bridge high schools. Tomorrow’s hours are 10 am to 1 pm. Deputies note the proper disposal of these medications helps protect the environment.
