UM System approves 2.3% tuition hike, mandatory mask-wearing

The University of Missouri Board of Curators approved a tuition hike on Thursday.

Students at Mizzou and the other three system campuses will pay 2.3% more starting this fall. The school says the increase will generate about $14.8 million in revenue, assuming enrollment holds steady. A university spokesman says enrollment is pacing about 1.5% higher than last fall.

Thousands of employees have taken pay cuts and furloughs and more than a hundred have been laid off as the university system deals with a big drop in funding because of the pandemic. A school spokesman says MU has to make up a $27.1 million gap in expected state funding this fiscal year alone, which ends June 30.

The Missourian reports interim chancellor Mun Choi said Thursday that MU students will have to wear masks while indoors on campus this fall.
