University of Missouri officials appeal NCAA punishments

The University of Missouri has made its case to the NCAA.

School officials spoke to an appeals committee in Indianapolis on Thursday.

Mizzou is looking at a postseason ban right now in football, baseball, and softball, plus other punishments because of academic fraud. A tutor did some course work for about a dozen athletes a few years ago. The NCAA says Mizzou fully cooperated with the investigation, and the tutor acted on her own.

“I firmly believe that if these penalties are not overturned, it will have a chilling effect on future NCAA investigations by discouraging universities to fully cooperate,” MU Athletic Director Jim Sterk said in Thursday’s statement.

It is not clear when the NCAA appeals committee will make its decision.
