An alleged Columbia drug trafficker who has been out on bond waiting for trial on 12 felonies is now jailed without bond, after being arrested again.

51-year-old Quentin Smith was arrested on Thursday during a traffic stop near Forum and Chapel Hill. CPD’s probable cause statement says police found 13 grams of green pills in a cellphone bag that tested positive for fentanyl. They also served a search warrant at his home and allegedly found a gun and ammunition. As a convicted felon, Smith cannot legally have a gun.
CPD’s probable cause statement says the 13 grams of pills tested positive for the presence of fentanyl, adding that in 2024, CPD investigated 16 fatal drug overdoses. The court document doesn’t elaborate on that. Smith is still waiting trial on the 12 charges from 2022 that include drug trafficking and fentanyl. He’s previously been convicted of resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
