Columbia firefighters say arson caused Tuesday’s early-morning blaze at a self-storage complex on Nebraska Avenue, near I-70.

While no injuries are reported, damage is estimated at $100,000. Columbia firefighters say they received numerous reports about the fire, which began at about 5:15 yesterday morning. Firefighters say they encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions when they arrived at the one-story building. They also found flames shooting through the building’s roof.

Crews searched the structure and found no one inside. Fire officials say the blaze originated from inside one of the individual storage units. 25 Columbia firefighters responded to the blaze.
