Campaign cash continues to flow in for the race for Columbia’s vacant second ward council seat.
939 the Eagle’s Mike Murphy of Comobuzz reports activist Vera Elwood has raised more than $19,000, while businessman Ken Rice has raised about $7,500. Mr. Murphy cites campaign finance reports that were due this week.
Vera Elwood’s biggest contributor is Laborers Local 955 of Columbia, which has contributed $1,500. The Columbia Professional Firefighters of Columbia have contributed $1,000 to Elwood. Ken Rice has received a $2,500 campaign contribution from the group “Citizens for a Safe Columbia.” Two former Columbia mayoral candidates, Blair Murphy and Randy Minchew, have each contributed $250 to the Rice campaign.
Columbia’s second ward council seat has been vacant since mid-May, when former Councilwoman Lisa Meyer resigned for health reasons.
