UPDATE: Charges filed against Columbia man, after alleged attempted kidnapping

A Columbia man has now been charged for Thursday’s alleged attempted kidnapping of a juvenile on Hyde Park Avenue, and remains jailed without bond.

Boone County prosecutors have charged 57-year-old Mark Lindell Martin with a harassment charge, a class E felony. Martin appeared in court for his initial arraignment Friday afternoon, and a public defender has been appointed. He’ll be back in court again on Tuesday afternoon.

Columbia Police say the female juvenile was at a bus stop, when Martin’s vehicle approached her. Police say he began talking to her and she walked away, before he got out of his car and walked toward her.

The juvenile began screaming, which drew the attention of people in the area. Police say Martin then drove away, before being arrested a short time later
