A prominent Columbia businesswoman with Rocheport ties is heading to federal prison for an 18-month sentence.

66-year-old Kathryn Cunningham, who is known as Kat Cunningham, has been sentenced Wednesday by a federal judge in Jefferson City. She founded and operated Columbia-based Moresource and pleaded guilty last year to federal wire fraud and failure to collect or pay taxes. Cunningham will also have to pay restitution, which will be determined by the court.

Moresource provided payroll to client companies. Federal prosecutors, in September court filings, say Kat Cunningham embezzled more than $2.2 million and gambled away clients’ payroll deposits at Boonville’s Isle of Capri casino.

The Columbia Chamber of Commerce honored Cunningham as the Chamber’s 2016 outstanding citizen of the year.
