A Columbia firefighter is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, after an overnight blaze involving a structure on the Business Loop.

CFD spokeswoman Katherine Rodriguez tells 939 the Eagle that the fire began at 2:15 am in the 1600 block of Business Loop 70 East. She says firefighters arrived to find a construction trailer engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. CFD crews made a rapid-fire attack, focusing on the structure’s front. As they forced their way through the trailer’s rear door, she says the fire intensified.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in about eight minutes. Nine Columbia fire unit crews, comprising 18 personnel, responded to the incident. Ms. Rodriguez says the Columbia fire marshal’s office is still investigating. CFD fire marshals are continuing an origin and cause investigation.

Our news partner KMIZ reports their videographer saw heavy smoke and flames billowing from a trailer with a Little Dixie Construction sign on it, when the fire was starting.
