UPDATE: Columbia man wanted for child sex crimes in Illinois has been captured

Columbia Police have captured a 24-year-old local man wanted in Illinois for multiple child sex crimes involving a 13-year-old.

Boone County prosecutors have charged 24-year-old Clayton Paul Newlon with being a fugitive from out of state. A motion from Boone County prosecutors says Newlon is charged with several crimes in Illinois, including aggravated criminal sexual conduct, criminal sexual assault, grooming and traveling to meet a child.

Our news partner ABC-17 reports Newlon allegedly met a 13-year-old girl at an Illinois hotel for sex, after meeting her on Snapchat.

Newlon is currently being held in the Boone County jail without bond. Boone County prosecutors say he’s a flight risk.
