A bond hearing is set for Thursday afternoon for a man charged with last week’s brutal killing at a Columbia motel.

Boone County prosecutors have charged 35-year-old Nicholas Ayres of Crane with second degree murder and domestic assault for the death of 37-year-old Destiny Dunn at Columbia’s By the Way motel on Range Line.

The Columbia Police Department’s three-page probable cause statement says the victim had several bruises “all over her body”, including severe bruising on her neck and face and swollen discolored eyelids. The graphic court documents say Ayres’ cell phone allegedly contains video of him assaulting the woman repeatedly, grabbing her hair, slapping her and punching her in the face.

He is currently jailed without bond. Judge Kayla Inez Jackson-Williams will preside over Thursday’s bond hearing.

New online court records show that Ayres is NOT eligible for a public defender, and that he lists his income as $5,000 a month.
