A bond hearing is set for Thursday morning for a Columbia man who allegedly drove over a woman twice in December, before leaving the scene.
Boone County prosecutors have charged 64-year-old Paul Tumminia with first degree assault, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. Tumminia is scheduled to appear in Boone County Circuit Court this morning for a confined docket hearing before Judge Kimberly Shaw.
Court documents say the December 13 incident happened at about 11 am at Plumb Supply on Columbia’s East Business Loop, and that it happened in front of multiple witnesses and was captured on surveillance video. The Columbia Police Department’s probable cause statement quotes Tumminia as saying he was mad at the woman and “ran her down.” Court documents say the victim suffered contusions, lacerations and possibly broken bones. Her face was covered in blood when police arrived, and court documents say she suffered contusions to her face.
Tumminia also allegedly fought with Columbia police officers who tried to arrest him after the incident at the Clark lane Schnucks, where he was working. He allegedly swung an elbow and fought the officers, and they had to force him to the ground as he continued to resist. Court documents quote Tumminia as telling police that he needed to be at Schnucks by noon and that she woman knew that, adding she wasn’t hurt that bad.
