A Columbia teenager charged with shooting and seriously injuring two people in November at the Greens apartments on Clark lane is jailed without bond, after being charged with six felonies.

17-year-old Ja’Mez Thompson-Bey is charged with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and two other felonies. A court filing from Boone County prosecutors alleges that Thompson-Bey lured the victims to the Greens apartments parking lot across from the Links with the promise of purchasing a cell phone from one of the victims.
Court documents say one victim returned fire and shot Thompson-Bey, who allegedly gave investigators a fake name at the hospital. The Columbia Police Department’s three-page probable cause statement also says one of Thompson-Bey’s relatives called police and told them Thompson-Bey’s real name, adding that police needed to stay with him at the hospital because her relative would try to escape.
A woman who lives at the Greens told our news partner KMIZ in November that she has just returned home from grocery shopping when she heard five gunshots. The woman says she heard people screaming and ran behind vehicles and got to the ground.
