A woman from Columbia who was allegedly transporting 17 pounds of meth in a Tesla Cybertruck has made her initial court appearance in Boone County Circuit Court, via video.

23-year-old Asia Schafer is charged with trafficking drugs, which is a class A felony. She appeared in court via video on Monday, before Judge Kayla Inez Jackson-Williams.

Schafer is currently jailed without bond in Boone County, and has prior convictions for third degree assault, tampering, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident. Court documents say Schafer is currently on felony probation in St. Charles County for third degree assault and that the prosecutor in that case intends to try to have her probation revoked.

The Columbia Police Department’s two-page probable cause statement says 453 grams of meth were in Schafer’s backseat, almost touching a child’s carseat.

Schafer’s attorney, Jeff Hilbrenner, has filed a motion for a bond reduction to $25,000 cash or surety. Counselor Hilbrenner’s motion says the no bond status is excessive, adding that Schafer is not a flight risk and will abide by all conditions of bond.
