Columbia city manager De’Carlon Seewood is recommending that the council vote Monday to appropriate more than $900,000 to cover repair expenses from Easter Sunday’s EF-1 tornado.

Mr. Seewood says the money will allow staff to continue providing maintenance on existing infrastructure that helps reduce service interruptions. The bill would move $905,000 from Electric retained earnings to the Electric operating budget.

The Easter Sunday tornado destroyed the city’s material recovery facility and damaged the landfill’s bio gas plant. The council voted to approve an ordinance after the tornado, supporting Mr. Seewood’s emergency declaration.
