Columbia’s new St. Charles road bridge over busy I-70 is scheduled to open late Friday afternoon, weather permitting.

Missouri transportation officials and dignitaries gathered for Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on the new bridge, which is at mile marker 131 near EquipmentShare. Columbia and Boone County elected officials joined Missouri transportation leaders and Millstone Weber crews for the ceremony near Columbia’s I-70 Lake of the Woods exit.

The old bridge, which was built in 1957, was demolished in April. MoDOT says the old bridge did not provide enough space for six lanes of I-70 travel below.

The new bridge features pedestrian crossings on both sides and enhances aesthetics. MoDOT’s Eric Kopinski tells 939 the Eagle that they’re on schedule to open the bridge Friday and believe it will be open at around 5 pm.
