Boone County prosecutors have also charged 18-year-old Ataveon Gordon with first degree assault and with unlawful use of a weapon, shooting from a motor vehicle.

CPD investigators say the male victim suffered a gunshot wound, which was not life-threatening. While the shooting happened in Mayflower in northwest Columbia, police didn’t discover the victim until a disturbance at about 9:45 on Monday morning near Providence and Nebraska, near the bowling alley. When they arrived, they located the shooting victim and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim’s friend said she sped away from the shooting scene and was driving to the hospital.

CPD’s probable cause statement says the vehicle driven by the victim has multiple bullet holes in it, and that the back glass was also shot out.

The court documents say the victim and a woman were in a vehicle near Valleyview drive when a sedan pulled up behind them. One of the occupants asked where something was. They allegedly took the victim’s phone and knocked another phone out of the woman’s hand. The court documents also say Jared Britt worked with the shooting victim at one time at a Columbia business.

Police say they’ve recovered multiple 45-caliber cartridge casings on Mayflower drive. CPS’s investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to call Columbia Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.
