State transportation officials are urging you to find alternate routes this coming weekend, as demolition happens on the Sorrels overpass over I-70 just west of Columbia.
The overpass sustained significant damage on October 18, when it was struck by a passing truck.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says demolition work will start Friday evening and should be done by next Monday morning. MoDOT says demolition work will require overnight lane closures on U-70 at the bridge, along with rolling roadblocks all weekend. MoDOT is warning about delays at the bridge all weekend.
The aging bridge was built in 1958. MoDOT crews have installed “wrap” under the overpass to prevent debris from falling onto vehicles below.
