A state memorial service is planned for Tuesday in Jefferson City for former Missouri Governor and former U.S. Sen. Kit Bond (R), who has died at the age of 86.
Kit Bond served two terms as governor, from 1973-1977 and again from 1981 to 1985. He then served four terms in the U.S. Senate from 1987-2010.
Governor Mike Kehoe praises Mr. Bond’s legacy, describing him as a fierce advocate for Missouri throughout his 40-year career of public service. Governor Kehoe says Tuesday’s state memorial service will be in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda at noon, and the public is invited. Governor Bond will lie in state in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda for a 24-hour period following the state memorial service, allowing members of the public to pay their respects.
A celebration of life for Mr. Bond will be held on Thursday May 22 at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church on Clayton road in St. Louis. Governor Kehoe has ordered U.S. and Missouri flags to be flown at half-staff at all government buildings statewide on sunset on May 22.
