The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) made Wednesday morning’s announcement. MHTC Chairman Warren Erdman describes the selection of Emery Sapp and Sons as another major steppingstone for MoDOT’s statewide improve I-70 program. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has called a 3:30 press conference for today at Columbia’s Parkade Plaza to discuss the project and the ESS selection.

State transportation officials expect construction to start in the spring or summer of 2026 with completion of that phase in late 2029.

MoDOT says the $441-million project will rebuild I-70 between Rocheport and Columbia and will add a third lane in each direction. The winning proposal from Emery Sapp and Sons also includes improvements to the I-70 interchanges at Stadium, the Business Loop, Providence, Rangeline and Highway 63. MoDOT also says Emery Sapp and Sons has committed to keeping two lanes of travel open in each direction during peak travel times.

MoDOT and contractors are currently working on the $405-million project to rebuild and expand I-70 between Columbia and Kingdom City. MoDOT held a November ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the first seven miles of completed I-70 pavement between Columbia and Kingdom City.
