Columbia/Boone County health officials continue to urge you to wash your hands with soap regularly and to clean surfaces, as flu numbers surge.

The latest statistics from Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services show that there were 242 flu cases during the week of December 20, up from 71 cases during the week of December 13 and 40 cases during the week of December 6. We don’t have numbers yet for the week of December 27.

The surge comes as Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) reports a significant increase in flu activity across the state. DHSS has recorded at least 9,255 lab-confirmed influenza cases statewide, along with 558 flu-related hospitalizations.

DHSS also urges you to practice good hygiene by washing hands frequently with soap and water, to cover coughs and sneezes and to disinfect frequently touched surfaces.
