A Boone County grand jury has indicted a Columbia man for first degree murder for the November shooting death of Justin Stidham north of town.
The indictment against 36-year-old Mark Achterberg has been unsealed, and he’s been arraigned this week. The indictment replaces charges that were filed in November, and Achterberg remains jailed without bond.
His next scheduled court appearance is February 28.
Achterberg fled to Iowa after the murder, and was captured by authorities in the Hawkeye state.
He appeared in Boone County Circuit Court in December, and Judge Tracy Gonzalez rejected bond efforts that day. Judge Gonzalez cited the murder charge, his record of convictions dating back to 2004 and that Achterberg had to be extradited back to Missouri from Iowa.
