A man from mid-Missouri’s Hartsburg admits that he stabbed his father to death in southern Boone County in 2022.
939 the Eagle News was at the Boone County Courthouse on Friday afternoon, where 25-year-old Collin Quinn Knight pleaded guilty to second degree murder. Boone County assistant prosecutor Susan Boresi amended the charges today, dropping first degree murder and armed criminal action charges. Knight, who was handcuffed and shackled, pleads guilty to second degree murder and admits in open court that he stabbed his father to death. He displayed little emotion in court, as he sat next to defense attorney Christopher Slusher.
The 52-year-old victim was stabbed to death inside a Hartsburg home on South Old Route A. Deputies said at the time that the victim “had obvious injuries” indicating an assault and homicide.
Boone County Circuit Judge Joshua Calvin Devine has scheduled an April 25 sentencing date at 8:30 am. The range for punishment for second degree murder in Missouri is between ten years and life, which is calculated at 30 years. Judge Devine is also expected to revoke Knight’s probation on two 2019 convictions for felony domestic assault.
One thing we know is that Collin Knight will be heading to prison. His sentence will be a minimum of ten years to a maximum of 60 years in prison. Prosecutor Boresi and Counselor Slusher both told Judge Devine in open court that they need a few hours on the April 25 sentencing date to call witnesses. Prosecutor Boresi tells 939 the Eagle that she expects the sentencing to go all day.
Look for tight security in court again for the sentencing hearing.
