UPDATE: Huntsville man killed in horrific weekend I-70 crash near Rocheport

Missouri state troopers say an argument between a driver and a passenger happened before Saturday afternoon’s horrific deadly crash on eastbound I-70 at the 116 mile marker in Boone County. That’s near Rocheport.

The one-vehicle crash killed 29-year-old driver Dakota Carter of Huntsville, who troopers say was not wearing a seat belt. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report says Mr. Carter was driving the Saturn Saturday afternoon at about 5:10 at I-70’s 116 mile marker, when he and passenger Brittney Brown of Huntsville “were engaged in an argument” that culminated with both Carter and Brown “attempting to manipulate the steering wheel.” The Patrol says the Saturn then traveled off the right side of I-70, collided with a ditch embankment and then overturned.

Mr. Carter, who was partially ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say Ms. Brown sustained minor injuries. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s crash report says there were also three juveniles in the vehicle: a five-year-old female suffered serious injuries and a ten-year-old male suffered moderate injuries: both were transported to Columbia’s University Hospital for treatment.

Our news partner KMIZ’s Marina Diaz reports the crash stalled traffic for hours Saturday near I-70’s Rocheport bridge.
