UPDATE: Improperly discarded smoking materials caused Sunday’s house fire in Columbia, CFD says

Columbia firefighters say Sunday morning’s house fire on Oakland Gravel road was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. That word from the Columbia Fire Department’s (CFD) fire marshals battalion.

CFD says there were no injuries in the fire, which happened in the 2500 block of Oakland Gravel.

Columbia firefighters say they were able to respond quickly and emphasize the importance of time and staffing, saying every second can mean the difference between a small fire and a destroyed home.
