That word from Columbia city manager De’Carlon Seewood, who spoke to 939 the Eagle at CPS’ Aslin building after Friday morning’s joing meeting between the city of Columbia, Boone County commissioners, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Public Schools (CPS) and Mizzou.

Columbia Police Department assistant chief Jeremiah Hunter briefed the group, saying CPD officers appreciate the weekend assistance downtown from Boone County Sheriff’s deputies, MUPD officers and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Assistant chief Hunter says there are now five overtime details and that they’re making a big difference. He also says about 100 vehicles are being stopped downtown each weekend night.

City manager De’Carlon Seewood attended the meeting and tells 939 the Eagle that the increased presence will continue through at least the end of the college football season, which is Thanksgiving weekend. There have been no major incidents downtown since late September’s deadly triple shooting that killed Stephens College senior nursing student Aiyanna Williams.
