CPD investigators are seeking multiple charges against 39-year-old Ricco Marshall of Columbia, a parolee who has served time in prison. Columbia Police say the woman was not injured, and police credit what they describe as decisive action by officers to deploy a Taser on the suspect to ensure her release.

Police say they were called to the 100 block of Conley road at about 1:30 on Friday afternoon, where a man had allegedly threatened the use of a weapon. CPD investigators say that when they arrived, they found a man who matched the suspect’s description, armed with a weapon. Columbia Police say when Marshall saw the officers, he went back inside the unnamed business and allegedly took a woman hostage, using her as a shield between himself and the officers. Police then deployed the Taser.

Columbia Police describe their investigation as ongoing, and they encourage anyone with information on the incident to call Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS. You can call that number anonymously.

Marshall, who also has ties to Moberly, has a criminal record. He is also set to appear in Boone County Circuit Court this (Monday) morning before Judge Brouck Jacobs on unrelated resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon charges.
