Columbia-area motorists will see major changes starting Tuesday evening on eastbound I-70 between Paris road and Highway 63.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says crews have finished building a portion of the new lanes in the median between east and westbound I-70 and now plan to begin reconstructing the existing eastbound lanes. Weather permitting, MoDOT says eastbound I-70 traffic will be shifted onto the newly-built lanes starting tomorrow night. Two eastbound lanes will be open for you to use, with speeds reduced to 55 miles per hour.
Because of this shift, I-70’s eastbound ramp to Highway 63 will temporarily close from Tuesday night until Saturday. That means that for several days, there will be no access from the eastbound I-70 ramp to Highway 63.
The work is part of a massive $405-million dollar project to rebuild and expand I-70 to three lanes in each direction from Columbia to Kingdom City. You can read more information about the project from MoDOT here.
