He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later died. A second victim who was shot is in stable condition at a hospital, according to police. Columbia Police also say the person they detained at the scene has been released from custody without charges, and that the case remains open and active. They’re not releasing additional information.

Sunday afternoon’s incident happened at about 12:30. 939 the Eagle’s LG Patterson was on-scene shortly after the shooting and saw a large police presence that included Columbia Police, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and Missouri state troopers. Mr. Patterson spoke to an employee at a nearby business who heard two or three loud pops. Crime scene tape was placed around the McDonald’s.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call Columbia Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.
