UPDATE: Mid-Missouri couple charged with sexually assaulting child held without bond

Two former Missouri Department of Corrections (DOC) employees are jailed without bond this (Wednesday) morning, for allegedly videotaping their alleged sexual assault of an unconscious four-year-old child.

33-year-old Paul Schofield and his wife Sara Schofield of Jefferson City are charged in federal court. The couple appeared in court for detention hearings on Tuesday, and U.S. Attorney’s office spokesman Don Ledford tells 939 the Eagle that U.S. Magistrate Judge Willie Epps ordered them both to be jailed in federal custody without bond.

Federal prosecutors say they also found videos of infants being sexually assaulted on Paul Schofield’s phone.

Paul and Sara Schofield worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections (DOC) as corrections officers, and Paul worked at the maximum-security Jefferson City Correctional Center. Missouri DOC spokeswoman Karen Pojmann tells 939 the Eagle that they’re no longer employed by the department.

The Boone County Cyber Crimes Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the case in April. The Schofields allegedly videotaped the 2019 incident with the unconscious four-year-old.
