Catastrophic flooding in southeast Missouri has prompted Columbia-based Missouri Task Force One (MO-TF1) to be deployed to southeast Missouri’s Sikeston.
Missouri Task Force One is being activated by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to deploy with embedded swift water rescue capabilities. Task Force One is deploying with more than 100,000 pounds of specialized equipment and rescue boats.

Cape Girardeau television station KFVS reports campers have been stuck in trees due to flash flooding, which is also happening at two state parks: Johnson’s Shut-Ins and Taum Sauk Mountain. MO-TF1 is also deploying a disaster situation awareness and reconnaissance (DSAR) mission ready team to help with real-time aerial reconnaissance.
Sikeston, which sits on I-55, has about 16,000 residents.
