Missouri’s attorney general has sent a scathing letter to the operators of the Reign Bar at Ninth and Walnut in downtown Columbia, demanding a detailed plan on steps the bar will take to eliminate what she calls nuisance conditions in and around the bar.
Attorney General Catherine Hanaway’s two-page letter says the Reign Bar has repeatedly contributed “to violent disturbances and threatens the peace of an entire neighborhood.” She’s referring to the July brawl that resulted in seven arrests and an officer being struck in the head along with other incidents where there was gunfire outside the bar.
General Hanaway is giving the Reign Bar owners 14 days to submit a written plan that could include adjusting hours and enhancing private security measures. Attorney General Hanaway says “we will not wait for another dangerous incident before taking steps to protect the people of Columbia.”
Once the bar submits the detailed plan, Attorney General Hanaway’s letter says its office with schedule a time with the bar to discuss the plan, including its implementation.
