The University of Missouri says the person seen on video at this week’s Turning Point USA event in Columbia is NOT a Mizzou student and has been trespassed from campus.
The person spoke at a pic up the microphone event and addressed Turning Point USA leaders, who say the person mocked Charlie Kirk’s death. The video shows a representative of the group asking the person “So you are for people being killed for freedom of speech.” The person responded “Yeah, absolutely.”
Some Missouri lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are critical of the individual, including State Sens. Nick Schroer (R-O’Fallon) and Stephen Webber (D-Columbia). Senator Webber says the person’s words are “deeply sick behavior.”
University of Missouri spokesperson Shayne Martin has released a statement about the incident. The statement says: “We learned of the video taken at the TPUSA event yesterday. We denounce any form of violence, and it is totally unacceptable to wish harm upon a person for exercising their First Amendment rights. The individual identified in the video is not a student at the University of Missouri. This individual has been trespassed from our campus. This serious matter has been referred to MUPD (University of Missouri Police Department), Columbia Police Department and the FBI for further investigation.”
The person in the video spoke to our news partner ABC-17 and criticized the backlash.
