Court documents quote a Moberly murder suspect as saying Sunday evening’s deadly shooting started after the woman confronted him about feeding and shooting birds.
Randolph County prosecutors have charged 68-year-old David Kip Heyde with second degree murder, and he remains jailed without bond. The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s redacted two-page probable cause statement quotes Heyde as saying he had never seen 23-year-old Bailey Scott before she came to his door Sunday and confronted him about feeding birds. Heyde is quoted in court documents as saying he told her to leave and that she then struck the left side of his face with her hand, before he fired two shots. The probable cause statement says state troopers did not observe any marks, swelling or bruising on Heyde’s face where he says he was struck.

The Patrol says the victim was shot in her torso and was pronounced dead on Heyde’s porch. Court documents say Scott died from a single gunshot wound and that she “had no obvious signs of trauma or injury to either of her hands.”
Moberly Police requested that the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) investigate Sunday’s homicide. Our news partner ABC-17 reports Moberly’s Boozy Badger Bar has organized a balloon release in Bailey’s honor tonight at 7, outside the bar.
