There were no injuries in the incident, which happened at about 1:50 on Sunday morning. CPD investigators are seeking multiple charges against 45-year-old Steven Morrell Harris, including armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Columbia Police lieutenant Derek Moore tells our news partner KMIZ that it was a chaotic scene at the beginning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Boone County Sheriff’s Department, MUPD and Ashland Police all responded to assist at the scene.

Police say officers were on patrol in the area when they witnessed Harris firing a weapon. CPD investigators say he was arrested then taken to a hospital for minor injuries for a crash that happened before the shots fired incident. A witness tells KMIZ that she saw someone get hit by a vehicle and then start shooting.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Columbia Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.
