A new roof has been built on the south Columbia home that was the site of January’s gruesome murder and arson fire.

939 the Eagle’s Jeff Ausmus reports a new roof is now on the home, and that additional work has been happening. Jeff reports major progress has been made on the home during the past three weeks. Some residents had complained that the burned-out building had been an eyesore near Vawter School and Creekfront Way, a highly-visible area in south Columbia.

Boone County prosecutors have charged 31-year-old Steven Martin Strumpf with first degree murder and second degree arson for the January 19th killing of his father. The Columbia Police Department’s heavily-redacted three-page probable cause statement says Strumpf allegedly admits stabbing the victim several times in the neck, before pouring gas on his father’s body and setting it on fire in the garage. The blaze caused extensive damage.

Strumpf’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 17.
