Columbia Police need your assistance in solving a weekend assault that happened near a popular downtown bar that left the victim with serious injuries.

The incident happened at about 1:40 on Saturday morning in the 900 block of East Broadway. While Columbia Police haven’t provided an exact location, our news partner KMIZ’s Olivia Hayes reports it happened outside Nash Vegas.

CPD investigators say the victim was struck “multiple times in the head and then lost consciousness.” The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to police. Columbia Police describe the suspect as a black male who was wearing a pink shirt: police say the suspect left the scene in a silver sedan. 939 the Eagle reached out Sunday afternoon to Columbia Police to see if they have made any arrests, and police tell us they have no additional information at this time.

A witness who saw the incident tells ABC-17’s Olivia Hayes that she and the victim were sitting outside Nash Vegas when the man in the pink shirt provoked them. The witness says her friend told the suspect to stop and was punched twice by the suspect. The witness says her friend was knocked out onto the concrete. The witness also alleges that the suspect and others drove by after the incident in a silver sedan, yelling ‘night night.’

Columbia Police describe their investigation as ongoing: they encourage anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS. You can call that number anonymously.
