The incident happened at about 10:30 pm during a large gathering at a park shelter. A Columbia Parks and Recreation spokeswoman tells 939 the Eagle that the group did not have a reservation at the park shelter.

CPD investigators located a man and woman at Cosmo Park with gunshot wounds. The male victim was in critical but stable condition at last check, and the female victim is in serious condition. Columbia Police have said its initial investigation says the incident happened during a large gathering of fraternity and sorority members from Columbia and Jefferson City who had gathered at Cosmo park.

Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to the chaotic scene, including Missouri state troopers, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and Ashland police. CPD’s investigation continues: anyone with information is urged to call Columbia Crimestoppers at (573) 875-TIPS.
