A Harrisburg woman who makes home-cooked breakfasts for the community at no charge at her home has received a letter from President Donald Trump, praising her commitment to the community.
Columbia/Boone County health officials say Harrisburg’s Kathy Kite is violating the food code. While President Trump’s letter doesn’t address the health department’s concerns, it praises Kite’s generosity and dedication in enriching the lives of her neighbors and strengthening her community.
President Trump’s letter says Ms. Kite serves as a role model to other Missourians “and countless others across our country.”
Columbia/Boone County Health Department spokesperson Austin Krohn has told 939 the Eagle that Kite is in violation of the food code which states “A person shall not operate a food establishment without a valid permit to operate issued by the regulatory authority.”
The Goldwater Institute, through attorney Dave Roland, disagrees and says the federal and Missouri constitutions protect Ms. Kite’s right to host farmers and others in her home.
