A group of citizens are concerned about the city of Columbia’s plans for construction of new mountain bike trails at the city’s popular Gans Creek recreational area.
While there are currently seven miles of trail already there, 939 the Eagle’s Mike Murphy, the publisher of Comobuz, reports the city wants to add 3.5 more miles so they can host competitive mountain bike races. Comobuz is reporting that some residents are concerned about the new trails’ proximity to the Gans Wild area at nearby Rock Bridge state park. A heron rookery is nearby.
Columbia’s city council is expected to host a public hearing one week from tonight (Monday) before the council votes whether or not to approve the project. Columbia Parks and Recreation’s website says the Gans Creek recreation area is a 320-acre park in southeast Columbia. It’s on East Gans road.
