Columbia Police have made a second arrest in November’s triple shooting in downtown Columbia, a shooting that also left multiple vehicles riddled with bullets.
CPD investigators say 23-year-old Demetris Shaw of Columbia, a convicted felon who also has ties to Warrenton, was arrested Thursday on charges of felon in possession of a firearm.
Three people were shot during the November 10 incident, and Columbia Police say all three victims are currently in stable condition. We also now know that Shaw is the motorist who allegedly crashed on I-70’s Midway exit on November 25, after leading Boone County Sheriff’s deputies and Missouri state troopers on a dangerous high speed pursuit down I-70. New court documents alleged that Shaw was driving more than 130 miles per hour that night when he cut between two tractor trailers on eastbound I-70, “nearly causing a serious crash,” court documents say. Shaw allegedly crashed at Midway and ran into the woods, where he escaped. But authorities allegedly found his phone, wallet, social security, drugs and a rifle in the vehicle.
Boone County prosecutors have already charged parolee Deandre Denny for the November downtown triple shooting. Court documents outline the chaotic gun battle that happened just blocks from the Columbia police station. They do not indicate a possible motive. The court documents also say five vehicles parked on Broadway were struck by gunfire and that Breeze Bridal and Prom at 908 East Broadway was struck by several bullet fragments.
